Meet Pastor Gregg

 

During the past 30 years, The Rev. Gregg Knepp has served as a Social Advocate for Diakon Lutheran Social ministries, mission re-developer for St. John’s Lutheran Church in the Pimlico-Park Heights neighborhood of Baltimore city, Senior Pastor of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, in Ocean City, MD, Director of Contextual Formation at United Lutheran Seminary, and (since May 2022), Pastor of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Brookline, Pittsburgh.

 

He is the founder of Haven Ministry shelter in Sunbury, PA; co-founder of the Holy Nativity-St. John’s Development Corp. in Baltimore as well as the Emergency Cold Weather Shelter and Clergy United for Reconciliation and Equality (CURE) in Ocean City, MD. In addition he has travelled extensively throughout Latin America, serving as a short-term missionary in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico; and more recently in Kenya, East Africa.

He is the author of “The Gospel of John: Church and Culture in Conflict” and “Journey to the Other Side: a Tool for Spiritual Growth on Your Mission Trip.” Currently he is working on his third book, “Simultaneously Saints and Sinners: Lutheran Leaders in Ministry with People of Color in the United States and the Caribbean, 1640-1965”

Pr. Gregg is committed to living the Gospel by following Jesus, particularly participating in God’s mission through Social Justice to our neighbors in need. He is also a postulant in the Order of Lutheran Franciscans.

He is the father of three “twenty-something” young adults and grandfather of one. In his spare time, Pastor Gregg enjoys reading, writing, working with horses, and growing tomatoes and peppers.
